Expressive E is a French company, founded in 2013, that builds electronic instruments around MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression), so every note you play can be shaped by how you press, bend and move it. We have the whole Osmose family in our Peterborough store: the Osmose synthesizer, with its sound engine by Haken Audio, and the Osmose CE controller, which uses the same keybed, each in 49 and 61 keys. This is gear you have to feel, so come and play one.

An Osmose plays like a keyboard you already know, then keeps listening after the key goes down. Expressive E's own description: press, bend, shake, strum and more, with each note shaped on its own. A spec sheet can't show you that. Five minutes on one in our store can.

  • MPE

    Every note on its own

    MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) lets each note you play be shaped separately by your gestures. Expressive E made its name with it after it was founded in 2013.

  • Osmose

    A synth that stands alone

    The Osmose synthesizer runs Haken Audio's EaganMatrix sound engine, with 500+ presets, and it also works as an MPE controller for your other synths and software.

  • Osmose CE

    Same keys, your sounds

    The controller edition uses the exact same keybed as the Osmose synth. It comes with Ctrl-e, Expressive E's free software with 900+ expressive presets, and Expressive E says it can make your existing plugins and hardware synths expressive, even without native MPE support.

  • 49 or 61

bought an amplifier recently, I'm located in Vancouver area. Seamless purchase via website. Edwin contacted me immediately to advise that it wasn't available due to a stock error, but offered me a reasonable option or to wait for new stock. I chose to wait, but had the amp in my hands within 2 weeks along with 2 sets of complimentary guitar strings. Edwin's customer service and communication were outstanding. Expressive E at Maar's Music

What is MPE?

MPE stands for MIDI Polyphonic Expression. It lets each note you play be shaped on its own by your gestures (pressure, movement or touch), instead of one control affecting every note at once. Expressive E builds its instruments around it (expressivee.com).

Osmose or Osmose CE: what's the difference?

The Osmose is a standalone synthesizer with its own sound engine (EaganMatrix by Haken Audio) and 500+ presets, and it also works as an MPE controller. The Osmose CE is the controller edition: the same keybed, made to play your software and hardware sounds, and it works instantly with Expressive E's free Ctrl-e software. Both come in 49 and 61 keys. The best way to choose is to play both, and we have both here.

Are you an authorized Expressive E dealer?

Yes. Maar's Music is an authorized Expressive E dealer, in Peterborough since 1993. New gear bought from an authorized dealer comes with the manufacturer's warranty; ask us for the current Canadian terms.

How much is shipping?

Orders of $298+ ship free across Canada. Orders of $79+ with a packed weight of 5 kg or less also ship free (this excludes bulky items and electric guitars). We ship within Canada only. Some remote delivery areas may need extra shipping charges. See our shipping policy for details.

What is your return policy?

If an item has a manufacturing flaw that makes it unusable, contact us within 7 days. Returns for any other reason are possible with return shipping paid by you and a 15% restocking fee; the item must be in “as received” condition with all original packing materials. Used and consignment items may not be returnable. Full details: refund policy.
