Collection: Yamaha

Authorized Yamaha dealer · Peterborough's exclusive Clavinova dealer

Yamaha's story began in 1887, when Torakusu Yamaha repaired a reed organ at a school in Hamamatsu, Japan, and went on to build his own. Piano making followed in 1900, the FG180 acoustic (the original “Red Label”) in 1966, and the first Clavinova digital piano in 1983. Today the name covers FG and FS acoustics, Revstar and Pacifica electrics, TRBX basses, Clavinova and P-Series digital pianos, keyboards and pro audio. Everything on this page is listed with in-stock items first, and every guitar is inspected and set up by our tech before it ships.

The Yamaha story

From a repaired reed organ to guitars, pianos and pro audio, in six quick facts.

  1. 1887 A reed organ in Hamamatsu

Torakusu Yamaha repairs a reed organ at a school in Hamamatsu, Japan, and goes on to build his own organs.

  2. 1897 Nippon Gakki

He founds Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd. The tuning-fork mark has been used since 1898, and the company became Yamaha Corporation in 1987.

  3. 1900 The first Yamaha pianos

Yamaha begins making pianos, the start of more than a century of acoustic and, later, digital pianos.

  4. 1966 The FG180 “Red Label”

Yamaha launches the FG180 acoustic, the original “Red Label”, and its first electric guitars for the world market.

  5. 1967 Classical guitars

Yamaha introduces the Clavinova digital piano. We're Peterborough's exclusive Yamaha Clavinova dealer.

Which Yamaha is which? A quick series guide

Guitar model names, decoded

FG models have a dreadnought body; FS models have a smaller concert body. An X after the letters (FGX, FSX) means a built-in pickup, and C means a cutaway, so an FGX800C is an FG with electronics and a cutaway. Red Label models revive the look of Yamaha's original 1966 FG guitars.

Yamaha series at a glance

  • TransAcoustic & SILENT Guitar: TransAcoustic guitars add reverb and chorus from inside the body, no amp needed; SILENT Guitars are frame guitars for quiet practice through headphones.
  • Pacifica & Revstar: Pacifica guitars run from starter models to the Professional series; Revstar II comes in Element, Standard and Professional versions.
  • TRBX & BB basses: TRBX basses for modern tones; BB basses for a classic feel.
  • Clavinova (CLP & CVP): furniture-style digital pianos: CLP models focus on piano playing, CVP models add accompaniment styles.
  • P-Series & DGX: portable 88-key digital pianos; the DGX adds arranger features.
  • PSR, PSS & Reface: PSR arranger and portable keyboards, PSS mini keyboards, and compact 37-key Reface instruments.
  • Pro audio: DM3 digital and MG analogue mixers, HS studio monitors and STAGEPAS portable PA systems.

I recently purchased a guitar from Maar's Music and I can honestly say it was one of the best customer experiences I've ever had.

I love the guitar, but honestly, the experience left such a lasting impression that I'm already looking for an excuse to buy another one. If you're in the Peterborough area and need anything music-related, do yourself a favour and visit Maar's. You won't regret it. I cannot say enough about this fantastic store.
